WORTHINGTON Iowa - Clarence C. "Chop" Jaeger, 91, of Worthington, died of cancer Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington, with burial at a later date. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on July 26, 1911, in Worthington, son of Charles and Susan (Sauser) Jaeger. He married Alice Schlick on Oct. 5, 1933, in Worthington.

He was the third generation owner and operator of Jaeger Hardware, Plumbing and Heating in Worthington until his retirement in 1962. He was a member of the St. Paul Altar & Rosary Society.

Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Barb (Clem) Stecklein, of Cascade, Thomas (Karen) Jaeger and David (Sharon) Jaeger, both of Dubuque, and Sandra Kuehn, of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Daniel (Cathy) Stecklein, of Englewood, Colo., Deborah (Marvin) Kleitsch, of Monticello, Diane (Dennis) Flannagan, of Hopkinton, Danna Yarolen, Dale (Sandra) Stecklein and Dennis (Jennifer) Stecklein, all of Cascade, Kimberly Ann Jaeger, of Dubuque, Kevin Thomas "Skinny" (Gina) Jaeger, of Dubuque, Tammy (Keith) Coates, of Alden, Crystal (Mark) Schnee, of Dubuque, Jeffery J. (Michele) Jaeger, of Dubuque, Carl Kuehn, on active duty with the Navy Special Forces, and Elizabeth (David) Weisman, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Delores (Charles) Steger, of Stockton, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, on Feb. 11, 1990; his parents, a brother, Eugene Jaeger; and two sisters, Margaret Kurt and Bernadine Steger.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Mark Janes and staff, Hospice of Dubuque, and Shady Rest Care Center for their compassion and help.
