DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Richard L. Walker, 86, of Sunnycrest Manor, Dubuque, formerly of Dyersville, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walker worked at his parents' business, Walker's Cafe, in Dyersville, for many years. He then worked at Scherrman's Garage and later worked at McDermott's Ford Garage in Dyersville.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1916, in Dyersville, son of Fred and Emma (Messing) Walker. He received his education in the Dyersville area schools.

He was a member of the former Dyersville City Band for many years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, for which he was a choir member, prior to moving to the Julien Care Facility in 1980. He also was a member of the Dyersville Knights of Columbus Council 1734.

Surviving are a brother, Chester Walker, of Mesa, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and a brother.
