Andrew D. Grevas

Andrew D. "Andy" Grevas, 87, of Dubuque, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Sunnycrest Manor, Dubuque.

Private family services will be held Saturday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1922, son of William and Lena Grevas. He married Mary Odette Conlan on May 4, 1946, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque; she preceded him in death.

Andy worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 31 years and was honored with an award for one million miles of safe driving.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 421 and enjoyed fishing and traveling in his spare time. Andy was proud to serve as a councilman and mayor for the city of Asbury.

Surviving are his children, David (Ellen) Grevas, Paul (Margie) Grevas, Renee (John) Schick and Nancy (John) Helling, all of Dubuque, and Daniel (Kim) Grevas, of South St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Scott) Blosch, Dr. Ann McCoy, Gretchen (Nick) Stanger, Andrew Paul Grevas, Laura Grevas, Nicholas Allen Grevas and Michael Grevas; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Olivia Blosch; a brother, John (Betty) Nicks, of Dubuque; three sisters, Irene (Wayne) Jewett, of Dubuque, Rosemary (Don) Acuff, of Aurora, Ill., and Lucille (the late Clement "Jim") Koppes, of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Nick (Bernadine) Grevas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Anna (Bud) Oulman.

The family requests no flowers.
