Arthur Aird, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Dubuque, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 9, 2003, in a Memphis area hospital surrounded by his family.

Services were held at the Church of Nativity, Memphis. He will be laid to rest in Texas next to his grandson Jeremy.

He was born on March 28, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Josephine and Peter Aird. He went on to marry Rosemarie Gagne also of Dubuque.

Arthur was a farmer and an upholsterer for Flexsteel Industries Inc., Dubuque, from where he retired.

He also volunteered for the Tri-State Independent Blind Society for more than 15 years. You could always find grandpa sitting on the porch smoking a cigar in his rocking chair. His grandchildren will attest to his love of teasing them and his great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie; an older sister, Mary Lorenz; two sons, Kenny (Cindy) and Thomas (Mary Lou); daughters, Blanch Hough, Nancy Pelletier, and Susan (Robert); 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack, Clem and Charlie; sister, Bernadine Gross; and grandson, Jeremy Heller.
