Patricia A. Burds
Patricia A. Burds, 63, of 3032 Pennsylvania Ave., died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following complications from surgery.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Centralia, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on July 5, 1946, in Le Mars, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Helen (McDermott) McAleer. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Monticello, Iowa, and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, in 1968.

She married Jerry Burds on June 21, 1969, in Monticello, Iowa.

Patricia taught at Sageville Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in 2002.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Patricia was an avid reader and was very proud of her Irish heritage.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry Burds, of Dubuque; two children, Stephen (Colin) Burds, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Kevin Burds, of Utila, Honduras; three grandchildren, Annika, Maya and Calleigh; seven siblings, Tom (Jan) McAleer, of Denver, Joe (Shelly) McAleer, of Tustin, Calif., Steve (Marlene) McAleer, of Monticello, Dan (Sally) McAleer, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Janice Curoe and Mary Jo Roller, both of Dubuque and Kathy (Dan) Reyner, of Delhi, Iowa; and in-laws, Bob Curoe, of Bernard, Iowa, Jack Burds, of New Mexico, Joan (Phil) Weber, of Dubuque, Colleen Bertinetti, of Arizona, and Will (Kathy) Burds, of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce Curoe; and a brother-in-law, John Curoe.
