DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Mary Bierl, 99, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Dyersville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Heritage Care Center, Venice.

Memorial services will be at a later date in Dyersville. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. The Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1903, in Templeton, daughter of John and Gertrude (Fox) Horbach.

Mary and her husband owned and operated the Gamble Hardware and Furniture Store in Dyersville. She moved to Venice in 1965 where she made her home until her death.

She was a member of the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Hittenmiller, of Venice and Delhi, and Norma Maiers, of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Joyce, of Dubuque, and Rita Rupiper, of Carroll; and a brother, William Horbach, of Templeton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; and three brothers, Nick, Jack and Joe.
