Mrs. John M. (Jean A.) Haggerty, 69, of Manor Care Health Services, formerly of 2346 Washington St., died at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Manor Care.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m. and the Women of the Moose will meet at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Haggerty worked several years at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, as a nursing assistant. She then returned to school and worked as a licensed practical nurse at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque until her retirement.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1933, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Winifred (McCann) Fransen. She married John M. Haggerty on July 11, 1953, at St. Raphael's Cathedral; he died on Jan. 7, 1986.

She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed reading, shopping and an occasional gambling trip. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy M. (Joe) Weydert and Maureen E. (Steve) Kennedy, both of Dubuque; three sons, Tim M. (Lori) Haggerty, of Muskegon, Mich., and Dan M. (Cheryl) Haggerty and Tom W. (Sandy) Haggerty, both of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Loe and Lorraine (Jack) Hirsch, both of Dubuque, and Betty (Gordon) Milroy, of Clinton, Iowa; a brother, Tom (Rosie) Fransen, of Dubuque; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Meyer, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Patrick J. Haggerty, on June 27, 1978; a great-granddaughter; Katie Marie Hammerand; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Shirley) Meyer; and three brothers, Gerald Fransen in infancy, William Fransen and Richard Fransen.

A Jean A. Haggerty Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and concern for Jean.
