Steve A. Dura

Steve A. Dura, 83, of 3122 W. 32nd St., passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

A private visitation will be held for immediate family from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, following cremation.

He was born on June 8, 1925, in Dubuque, son of Steve and Mary (Komar) Dura. Steve married Imogene Pearl Lieb on Aug. 31, 1944, at St. Patrick's Church, Dubuque. Steve was a loving husband and father who cherished his family and cared deeply for others.

He farmed in the Sageville, Iowa, area during his youth and was a logger in the tri-state area. After he retired from working at the Dubuque Pack for 42 years, he was an estate caretaker.

Steve was a kind and gentle man who loved being outdoors and was "happiest when he had dirt under his fingernails." He enjoyed studying natural medicine, reading and was very health conscious.

Surviving are his wife, Imogene Pearl Dura, of Dubuque; four children, Carol M. (James) Schwendinger, of Little Falls, Minn., Sharon L. (William) Schnoebelen, of Dubuque, Mary M. Starr, of Dubuque, and her daughter, Anya Starr, Daniel J. Dura, of Dubuque, and his son, Dustin Dura; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Elsie) Dura, of Phoenix; a sister-in-law, Rita Dura, of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Dura; a grandson, Austin Dura; and a brother, Elmer "Whitey" Dura.
