Sister MARY ROSALIE WHALEN, PBVM

Sister Mary Rosalie Whalen, PBVM, 82, of Mount Loretto Convent, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Mount Loretto Motherhouse.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Loretto, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Loretto, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Rosalie taught elementary students for several years including St. Columbkille's in Dubuque. She was nursing director of Mount Loretto Infirmary from 1961-1965. She taught nursing at NICC, Peosta, Iowa, from 1974-1989.

She was born on June 5, 1920, in Elma, Iowa, daughter of William and Nellie Whalen.

She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in February 1939, and professed her Perpetual Vows on July 31, 1944.

Surviving are her brothers, John and Rev. Charles Whalen; many nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared life for 63 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Mary Burd; and two brothers, James and Michael.
