Rev. Fr. Mullen Services Held Here Tuesday

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic church Tuesday morning for the Rev. James A. Mullen, who had been pastor of the church the past 14 years. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Key West, near Dubuque.

The reunion mass was celebrated by the Most Rev. Archbishop Francis J. L. Beckman, STD. of the Dubuque archdiocese. He was assisted by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter O’Malley, of St. Anthony’s church. Dubuque, as archpriest; the Rev. M. L. Kerper, Church of the Nativity. Dubuque, as archpriest; the Rev. M. L. Bisch, New Hampton, sub-deacon; the Rev. James Courtney, Ottumwa, and the Rev. Frank Vallaster, Postville, deacons of honor.

The Rev. Veach Casey of St. Raphael church, Dubuque, was master of ceremonies, assisted by the Rev. F. J. Kaufman, of Loras college, Dubuque; the Rev. A. G. Schmidt, LaMotte, was mitre bearer; the Rev. E. A. Kurth, Loras college, candle bearer; the Rev. H. Hendrichs, Preston, book bearer, and the Rev. J. G. Schmitz, Meyer, Iowa, censer bearer.

The Rev. Victor Hingtgen of Edgewood preached the funeral sermon. Pallbearers were members of Sacred Heart parish, M. J. Hoffmann, P. J. Hoffmann, William Burke, Charles Crowley, Mike Regenwether, William Dubert and Wincel O’Connor, Honorary pallbearers were the Rev. L. J. Quirin, Fillmore; the Rev. Lester Kuen Dunn, Dubuque; the Rev. E. S. Loosbrock, Otter Creek; the Rev. Joseph Gregor, Oxford Junction; and the Rev. N. J. Krull, St. Donatus.

Following the morning service women of the church served dinner in the church hall to the visiting clergy and sisterhood representatives.
