Thomas C. Shaffer, 54, of 4154 Bluebird, died at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3:30 p.m.

Mr. Shaffer was formerly employed at Caradco Mfg. Co. and Rooster Feeds.

He was born on July 18, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa, son of Irvin and Eileen (Cleary) Shaffer. He attended Dubuque Senior High School.

He married Suzanne L. Foulk on Jan. 25, 1969, in Dubuque. Tom and Sue were volunteers for many years at the Tri-State Blind Society.

He was a sports fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Yankees fan. He also enjoyed his aquarium. He especially loved playing games with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his good buddy, Jacob.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Shaffer; a daughter, Dawn M. (Bill) Mayne, of Dubuque; three sons, Rick J. Shaffer and Brian I. (Stacy) Shaffer, both of Dubuque, and Ron J. "Red" (Shelly) Shaffer, of Maquoketa, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Madison Shaffer, Amanda Shaffer, Tyler, Alex and Logan Mayne, and Kiernan and Mikhayla Shaffer; four sisters, Tonna Flaherty and Carol (John) Horkheimer, both of Dubuque, Linda Seys, of Kansas City, Kan., and Debbie Meyer, of East Dubuque, Ill.; three brothers, Marty Shaffer, of Monroe, Wis., Bobby (Carolyn) Shaffer, of Fairplay, Wis., and Mike Shaffer (Chris Luchsinger), of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, James Dean Adams.

A Thomas C. Shaffer Memorial Fund has been established.
