ASBURY, Iowa - Mr. Gerald H. "Gerry" Breitsprecker, 72, of 15290 Lore Mound Road, rural Asbury, died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 4300 Asbury Road, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League of Dubuque and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, where there will be a parish Christian wake service at 5 p.m. The Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Breitsprecker worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 28 years, prior to retiring in 1983. He also was a self employed farmer.

He was born on May 3, 1930, in Dubuque, son of Henry and Frances (Buchholz) Breitsprecker. He married Juliann C. "Julie" Manders on Sept. 18, 1954, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque.

He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, the United Automobile Workers Union Local 94 and was a Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Juliann C. "Julie" (Manders) Breitsprecker; four sons, Gerald E. (Judith), of Lancaster, Wis., John H. (Heidi), of Altoona, and Douglas M. (Lisa) and Mark W. (Jane) Breitsprecker, both of Dubuque; five daughters, Debra A. (Barry) Ruden and Cindy L. (Randy) Schrobilgen, both of Dubuque, Cathleen M. Breitsprecker, of Kansas City, Mo., Laura A. (Jerry) Heiderscheit, of Epworth, and Diann M. Hohmann, of Maquoketa; 29 grandchildren; five brothers, Harold (Jean), Raymond (Eloise) and Fred Breitsprecker, all of Dubuque, Ed (Fern) Breitsprecker, of Potosi, Wis., and Henry (Chris) Breitsprecker, of Burlington, Wis.; and three sisters, LaVonne (Donald) McKeon, of Darlington, Wis., and Irene Graves and Donna (Robert) Farley, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan M. Breitsprecker, in 1956; and a brother-in-law, Jake Graves.

A Gerald H. "Gerry" Breitsprecker Memorial Fund has been established by his family.
