Doc DeWayne Harris, 87, of Arlington, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2003, at Regional Medical Center of Northeast Iowa, Manchester, following a short illness.

Graveside services and burial will be held at a later date in Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris was manager at L.E. Bachtel Produce, Arlington, during World War II. He was then the bookkeeper at Don Squires Produce, Arlington, for 14 years. He moved to Dubuque in 1970, where he was the head bookkeeper at Operation New View. He retired and moved back to Arlington in 1990.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1915, in Greeley, Iowa, son of Lemuel Marshal and Matilda (Hyde) Harris. He married Viola Irene Walters on May 1, 1946, in Arlington.

Surviving are his wife, Viola Harris, of Arlington; a daughter, Judith Ann (Larry) Hoye, of Columbus, Ohio; two grandsons, Robert (Andrea) Anglin, of Dubuque, and Derek Hoye, of Columbus; two great-grandsons, Ryan Anglin and Clayton Lego, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clyde, Clifford, Glenn and Arthur; and four sisters, Cecil Hansel, Thelma Smith, Opal Harbaugh and Berniece Smith.

Memorials may be given to the Arlington EMTs and Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point.
