MRS. IRVEN (Ruth A. Shultz) MELCHERT

Ruth A. Melchert, 87, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 2512 Roosevelt Ave., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Melchert worked for many years at the General Dry Battery Factory before becoming a seamstress at J.C. Penney, eventually retiring in 1978.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1915, in Dubuque, daughter of Phillip and Kittie (Baker) Shultz. She married Irven Melchert; he passed away in 1971.

Ruth volunteered for more than 15 years at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque. She was a faithful member of Women's Fellowship and a longtime member of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ.

Surviving are four children, Milton (Linda) Ernst, Frank (Sandi) Ernst and Karen (James) Kieffer, all of Dubuque, and Duke (Ruth Ann) Ernst, of Belvedere, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild, two brothers and four sisters.

A Ruth A. Melchert Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Manor for all their wonderful care.
