MRS. HAROLD (Luella M. Koob) MANTERNACH

CASCADE, Iowa - Mrs. Harold (Luella M.) Manternach, 91, of 615 Second Ave. SW, Cascade, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at home, from renal kidney failure.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on April 22, 1911, in Cascade, daughter of Hilar and Mary (Breitbach) Koob. She received her education in the former St. Mary's Catholic School, Cascade.

Prior to her marriage, she cared for her widowed father, brothers and sisters. She married Harold Manternach on Sept. 27, 1939, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade.

Luella loved caring for her family, playing cards, playing the piano, baking and visits to and from her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Manternach, of Cascade; six children, Carl "King" Manternach, at home, Karolyn (Mrs. Ron) Kramer, of Freeport, Ill., and Eileen (Mrs. Bernie) O'Connell, Donna (Chuck) Casey, Paul (Kathy Logsdon) Manternach and Herb R. (Jacquie Trumm) Manternach, all of Cascade; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Koob, of Cascade; a sister, Frances (Mrs. John) Peiffer, of Cascade; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Delores Manternach, on Oct. 5, 1951; two sons-in-law, Bernie O'Connell and Ron Kramer; two grandsons, Andy and Toby Casey; two brothers, Emmett and Larry Koob; and three sisters, Delphina (Mrs. Roy) Takes, Rosalyn (Mrs. Albert) Takes and Adeline (Mrs. Henry) Peiffer.

A Luella M. Manternach Memorial Fund has been established.
