MRS. JOSEPH (Lois J. O'Hea) STELKEN

Mrs. Joseph (Lois J.) Stelken, 66, of 1850 Bunker Hill Road, died at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at home, following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Stelken was a longtime employee with the city of Dubuque, having spent the past 18 years as secretary of the Dubuque Fire Department.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1936, in Dubuque, daughter of Alex and Lorraine (Noel) O'Hea. On Oct. 6, 1960, she married Joseph Stelken at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church.

She graduated from St. Columbkille's High School in 1954. She was an avid sports fan and actively participated in softball, volleyball, bowling and golf. Lois was a bingo volunteer at St. Anthony's Parish and at Wahlert High School for many years.

She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was a member of several bridge clubs. Above all, Lois loved playing cards and games with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph, of Dubuque; her children, Mark J. (Michelle) Stelken, of Dubuque, and Mary Beth (Roger) Scott, of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren, Alex, Jonathon and Jacob Stelken, of Dubuque, and Trey, Lee and Turner Scott, of Clive; three brothers, Delmer (Mary) O'Hea and Gerald (Ann) O'Hea, both of Dubuque, and Donald (Colleen) O'Hea, of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters, LouAnn and Jeanette O'Hea and Mary C. McGrath, all of Dubuque; nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Karla K. Berns and Darlene Hantlemann, both of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Lorraine O'Hea; and a special aunt, Fanny O'Hea.

A Lois J. Stelken Memorial Fund has been established.

The Stelken family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Kukla and his staff, Hospice of Dubuque and St. Anthony's Parish for their wonderful care and support throughout Lois' illness.
