FARLEY, Iowa — Alvina A. Beringer, 84, of 8243 Comer Road, Farley, died at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. and the Farley American Legion will meet at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1918, in New Vienna, daughter of Bernard and Barbara (Steffen) Schulte. She received her education in the St. Boniface school.

She married Carl Beringer on Feb. 11, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna. They began farming in the Cascade-Temple Hill area before they moved to the Farley area in 1952.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Farley, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau.

Alvina cherished and loved her family and their farm.

Surviving are a son, Tom (Carol) Beringer, of Farley; twin daughters, Judy (Dave) Gogel, of Worthington, and Janie (Pete) Ament, of Dyersville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Drees, of Manchester, and Rose Menke, of Oakcrest Manor, Dyersville; and a brother, Albert Schulte, of New Vienna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl H. Beringer, on June 26, 2001; four brothers, Joe, Lawrence, and two brothers in infancy; and two sisters, Catherine Lux and Leona Schulte.

Alvina’s family would like to thank Sheila and the staff of the Chateau Royale; the staff of Shady Rest Care Center; and a special thanks to Mae Elgin, for all the wonderful care they gave to Alvina.
