Ellen M. Horsfield (Mrs. Robert W.) Nicks 1926-2002

Mrs. Ellen M. Nicks, 76, of Luther Manor Nursing Home, 3131 Hillcrest Road, formerly of St. Mary’s Apartments, 2955 Kaufamnn Ave. and Adair St., died at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the nursing home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Placid, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Nicks worked at the former Georgia Pacific Mfg. Co. for 30 years, prior to retiring in 1992.

She was born on May 19, 1926, in Epworth Iowa, daughter of Edwin and Catherine (Smith) Horsfield. She married Robert W. “Bob” Nicks on Feb. 7, 1949, in Rochester, Minn; he passed away on May 12, 1995.

She grew up in Epworth and graduated from the former Epworth High School in 1944. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Catherine (Guy) Fuhrman, of Rochester, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Peggy (Chris) Manzor, of Rochester; two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Jessie Manzor; a sister Geraldine (Donald) Hess, of Clear Lake, Iowa; and two brothers, Ed (RoseMarie) Horsfield, of Epworth, and Tom (Kay) Horsfield, of Dodgeville, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

An Ellen M. Nicks Memorial Fund has been established by her family.
