EDWARD A. NICKS

Edward A. Nicks, 56, of 135 West Seventeenth Street, died at 3:15 o'clock Tuesday morning at Mercy Hospital following an illness of seven weeks.

The funeral will be held from the Strueber Funeral Home to St. Patrick's Church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning, and burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Nicks was born Oct. 13, 1884, in Dubuque. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth Nicks, pioneers here, and was a lifelong resident of Dubuque. For 35 years he was a locomotive engineer for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railway Company. He married Miss Addie Williams at the Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque in 1921. Mr. Nicks was a member of St. Patrick's Church and LaSalle Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was also affiliated with the Brotherhood of Firemen and Engineers.

Surviving are his son, Robert W. Nicks, at home; three sisters, Miss Elizabeth Nicks, Dubuque, Mrs. Catherine Hall, Chicago, and Mrs. Florence Palen, Caledonia, Minn.; and five brothers, Joseph, Nicholas, and Paul Nicks, all of Dubuque,Ben Nicks, Kansas City , Kas., and Peter NIcks, Gary, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Jan. 30, 1930, and by one son and one daughter.
