SGT. BLICHMANN LOST IN ACTION
Third Dubuquer Missing in Italian War Theater
Sergeant Carl C. Blichmann, 21, United States Army Infantry is missing in action in Italy since January 26, according to word received Saturday by his mother Mrs. Elsie Blichmann, 668 Nevada Street.
The War Department telegram, which was signed by Ulio, the adjutant general, stated that further information, when received, would be immediately forwarded.
Sgt. Blichmann went overseas with the National Guard in January 1942, after training at Camp Claiborne, La. He served through the African campaign.
The last letter Mrs. Blichmann had from the sergeant was dated Jan. 12, and told that he was sending home the Purple Heart Medal which he received when he was slightly wounded, although his mother had not been informed of his casualty. Sgt. Blichmann also stated that he was sending several souvenirs home, but the package has not yet been received in Dubuque.
He was in the same company as Staff Sergeant Homer J. (Jim) Amos and Corporal James Rang; Dubuquers both reported missing also on Jan. 26.
Sgt. Blichmann’s brother, Sergeant C. H. Blichmann, is now serving with the United States Army Air Forces “Somewhere in England” as a gunner on a bomber.
