Wilma Burns

Wilma Burns, 81, formerly of 2955 Kaufmann Ave., died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Dubuque, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Casey) Hall. She married Robert William Burns; he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1983.

She graduated from the former St. Patrick Elementary School and the former St. Joseph Academy, both in Dubuque.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Dubuque Packing Company.

Wilma was a member of Nativity Parish, its Rosary Society and Guild, and the Dubuque Notre Dame Club.

She was a die-hard Cubs fan and a staunch Democrat.

Surviving are two sisters, Verna Metz, of Dubuque, and Ann Price, of Asbury; three sisters-in-law, Ann Hall, of Dubuque, Judith Hall, of Asbury, and Doris Strong, of Dubuque; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family, the residence and staff at The Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.
