Marcellus E. "Marcy" Timmerman

Marcellus E. "Marcy" Timmerman, 87, of 1609 Westridge Drive, formerly of the Sinsinawa, Wis., area, died suddenly at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where military rites will be accorded by Dubuque Post 6. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sinsinawa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

He was born on April 20, 1920, in Sinsinawa, son of Lambert and Ellen (Fleege) Timmerman. Marcy was a graduate of Loras Academy and Bayless Business College.

He was inducted into the Army in 1942, and served during World War II in the European Theatre.

After he returned, Marcellus was employed in the office at the former Dubuque Packing Company.

He married Marian E. Runde on July 16, 1946, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In 1948, he moved his family to the family farm in Sinsinawa.

He retired from farming in 1981 and moved to Dubuque.

Marcy was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker, Council 10069 and American Legion, Post 6.

Marcy was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Marian E. Timmerman, of Dubuque; three daughters, Sr. Jo Ann M. Timmerman, OP, Sinsinawa, Jane R. Timmerman, Kalispell, Mont., and Nancy M. (John) Helbing, Cuba City, Wis.; two sons, Terry J. (Judy) Timmerman, at the home farm in Cuba City and Tim G. (Christie) Timmerman, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Peter and Ben Helbing, Aaron, Emily and Molly (fiance, Dan Kieler) Timmerman, Nicole (Mahmood) Akhtar, Katie, Allie, Sarah, Andrew and Daniel Timmerman; a great-grandson, Humza Akhtar; and a sister-in-law, Lois Timmerman, of Cuba City.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Quinlan and Mary Hoppman; five brothers, Wilbert, Fr. LaVern, Joseph, Gerald and I.J. "Fat" Timmerman.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center, ER and ICU units.
