James C. Hillebrand

James Charles "Gutzy" Hillebrand, 60, of 1410 East 30th Ave., Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, in Apache Junction.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a Moose Lodge Service and flag presentation by American Legion Post 6 at 8 p.m.

He was born on June 23, 1947, in Dubuque, son of Arnold and Irene (Orr) Hillebrand. He married Gladys Miller on Jan. 28, 1989.

James was a Navy veteran.

He worked for the former Dubuque Packing Company for 13 years and in construction.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, in Dubuque, and a former member of UFCW 150A.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys; a son, James (Hillary) Muir, of Epworth, Iowa; step-children, Gerald "J.J." (Lori) Miller, Jeana (Greg) Swift and Greg Miller, all of Dubuque; one grandson, Ean; eight step-grandchildren, Steven, Gerald, Morgan, Hailey, Zachary, Chloe, Brieanna and Adain; two brothers, Thomas (Linda) Hillebrand and Richard (Bev) Hillebrand, both of Dubuque; two sisters, Deborah (Bob) Diers, of Colesburg, Iowa, and Sandy (Gary) Shoenfield, of Hanover, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane "Janie" Hillebrand.
