Mrs. Eldon (Grace M.) "Ex" Strohmeyer, 96, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of 2460 Lincoln Ave., died at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on April 24, 1911, in Dyersville, daughter of John H. and Mary Alice Neyens. She attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy. She married Eldon Strohmeyer on April 24, 1935, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on July 28, 2001.

Grace was employed in Dubuque at H.B. Gover Mfg. Co. and Alden's Catalog Office.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish most of her life and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and a former member of the Fire Fighters Auxiliary. Her Catholic faith and support of her church were an important part of her life.

Grace enjoyed sitting in her yard watching the birds and tending her flowers. She loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit with her. She also liked to crochet and play games and was an avid Cubs fan.

In her later years at the nursing home, she was president of the Residents' Council and enjoyed doing word scrambles. Her favorite day was Monday, "Bingo Day."

Surviving are two sons, David L. (Judi) Strohmeyer, Berlin, Wis., and Dale R. (Rosie) Strohmeyer, Plano, Texas; a daughter, DeLee M. Jochum, Dubuque; nine grandchildren, Susan (Chad) Cason and Robyn (David) McAllister, of Berlin, Tony (Sandy) Strohmeyer and Robbie Strohmeyer, of Dallas, Jeff (Judy) Jochum, Wendy (Troy) Lampers, Jayne (Paul) Lynch, Lori Jochum (friend, Randy Oltmanns), all of Dubuque, and Don (Beth) Jochum, of Rochester, Minn.; 17 great-grandchildren, Sam, Zach, Marlee, Jack, Dean, Julia, Kyle, Cody, Jordon, Emily, Haley, Ashley, Michael, Ryan, Samantha, Randa and Daniel; a sister, Rita (LaVerne) Strohmeyer, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Laura Neyens, of Dubuque;and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was reunited in eternity with her husband, Eldon; her sister, Ramona (Ed) Gerhard; four brothers, Claude (Imelda), Lester (Aileen), Julius (Mary) and Gerald Neyens; and a "favorite" son-in-law, Wayne Jochum.

The family gives special thanks to the staff of Dubuque Nursing & Rehab, especially Deb, and Hospice of Dubuque nurses, Ann and Edna.
