George E. Waddell Sr.

George E. Waddell Sr., 78, of 618 Gilbert St., Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at his home of natural causes.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, South St., Waterloo, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

He was born April 10, 1930, in Mason City, Iowa, son of Carl and Lila Ruth Stripes Waddell.

He graduated from East High School in 1948 and was employed as a foreman with the Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years. He also was a delivery man for Metz Baking Co. for 16 years, retiring in April 1996.

Surviving are a son, George E. Jr. (Patricia), of Dubuque; two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Voshell, of Waterloo, and Rebecca (Frank) Woldan, of Dysart; six grandchildren, Lindsey (Tim) Cota, Jason Waddell, Wendy (Kurt) Venenga, Nicole (Luke) Cummings, Melissa Voshell and Michael Voshell; five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Anna Venenga, Catherine Cummings and Alexander and Taylor Cota; two sisters, Barbara Ransom, of Waterloo, and Wanda Estel, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and three brothers, Warren (Dorothy) and Dwan, both of Waterloo, and Carl Jr., of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; a brother; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Cota.
