DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Gerald J. "Jerry" Recker, 85, of Dyersville, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Phil Kruse officiating and Deacon Marvin Recker assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish scripture service will take place at 3 p.m.

Jerry was born on May 14, 1922, in Sand Springs, son of Henry and Rose (Willenborg) Recker. He married Pearl A. Schemmel on Aug. 30, 1945, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville.

Together they farmed near Sand Springs, primarily as cattle feeders. Jerry's love of farming inspired farm-related inventions and he employed the latest farming techniques. They moved to Dyersville in 1978.

Additionally, he enjoyed watching the Cubs and Hawks.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl; four sons; Ken (Anne), of Ames, Gary (Linda), of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Cathy), of Sand Springs and David, of Dyersville; seven grandchildren, Beth LaCoste, Christine Jacobson, Michael Recker, Ben Recker, Jeff Recker, Michaela Coyle and Megan Recker; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Mormann, of Manchester; and a sister-in-law, Irene Recker, of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Florian, Ernest, Irvin and Gilbert Recker.
