Yvonne J. Walton, 73, of 2758 University Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at home.

Services will be at noon, Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home.

She was born April 14, 1934, in St. Nazaire, France, daughter of Chistian and Marie (Portugal) Glajean. She married Richard Walton on November 24, 1956, in France, and just celebrated their 50th anniversary of marriage.

She met her husband Dick while he was serving a tour of duty in France with the Army, and she was employed as a surgical nurse. They were married in France and moved to Dubuque.

She loved to cook, and her specialty was coquille St. Jacques. She also enjoyed tapestry, needlepoint and crossword puzzles. Yvonne was devoted to her family.

Yvonne and Dick were longtime members of St. Anthony's parish.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; a daughter, Mathilda G. "Tilly" (Russ Frommelt) Giellis, of Dubuque; sons, Jean-Pierre (Rose) Walton, Jerome Eugene (Debbie) Walton, and Richard Eugene Walton, all of Fort Worth, Texas, and Christophe "Chris" Jon Walton and Dominique Paul "Dom" Walton, both of Dubuque; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Denise (Paul) Nungesser, in France.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A special thank-you to Nicole and Jessica Breitbach, granddaughters, for their loving care of Grandma. Dubuque Internal Medicine, including Dr. Garrett Ridgley and his nurse Lisa; all the doctors at Mercy Hospital ER; and Marvin Nye, of Paramount Medical Services -- you are all such kind and special people.
