HOLY CROSS, Iowa -- Leon F. Link, 81, of Holy Cross, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after a brief illness.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 18, at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1927, in Balltown, son of Frank W. and Margaret (Thul) Link. He attended school in Balltown.

He married M. Catherine "Kay" Hannan on April 27, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rickardsville. Together they farmed in the Balltown area until 1969, when they moved to Holy Cross. He continued working at Caradco, the Holy Cross Locker and for the last 5 years he made coffee at Noonan's North.

He was a retired member of the Holy Cross Fire Department and was a member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine "Kay," of Holy Cross; six daughters, Diane (Ron "Hink") Lucas, of Holy Cross, Deb (Steve) Ross, of Farley, Julie (Rick) Beecher, of Dubuque, Sharon (Jim) Schieltz, of Luxemburg, Mary (Ray) Hennessy, of Whitewater, Wis., and Laurie (Bill) Pfeiler, of Dyersville; a son, Randy (Katie) Link, of Holy Cross; 17 grandchildren: three great-grandchildren, with two expected; a sister, Grace Brimeyer, of Dubuque; and five sisters-in-law, Edna, Alice, Elaine and Mary Link and Honey Cummer.

He was preceded in death by "his little boy Terry" in 1952; his parents; his "twin buddy" Lyle, and other brothers, Cletus, Sylvester, Bill and Herb; a brother-in-law, Leon Brimeyer; and his son-in-law, "Rock" Link.
