Joseph N. Sauser

CASCADE, Iowa -- Joseph N. Sauser, 58, of 761 Carriage Hill, Dubuque, and formerly of Cascade, died at 12:41 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after a sudden illness.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade.

Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today, at the Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Daniel Knepper presiding. Friends also may call after noon until time of services Monday at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1949, in Cascade, son of Joseph F. and Mary R. (White) Sauser.

He received his education in the Western Dubuque schools and also attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. He also received training at the Helen Keller Institute in New York. He was employed with the Vocational Service Center in Dubuque.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Sauser, of Dubuque, 10 siblings, Frank (Diana) Sauser, of Rock Island, Ill., Stephen (Barbara) Sauser, of Cascade, Margaret (Joe) Noonan, of San Antonio, Texas, Anne Sutter, of Davenport, Allan (Doris) Sauser, of Cascade, Mary Jane (Dan) Driscoll, of Dubuque, Edwin (Joan) Sauser, of Monticello, Raymond (Jane) Sauser, of Dyersville, William (Vicki) Sauser, of Worthington, and Joan (Leo) Hawkins, of Lawrence, Kan.; 23 nieces and nephews; and 13 grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Thomas Sauser.

A special thank-you to the ARC staff and Vocational Services Center staff, in particular, Karen Schultz, Kim Connolly and Carol Arling, also Sr. Rosalyn, Dr. Butzier and the emergency room staff at Mercy.
