Mary C. Conlon Martel

Mary Carol Conlon Martel, 68, of 1245 S. Grandview Ave., formerly of Laguna Niguel, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be held at a later date in California. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on March 25, 1939, in Dubuque, daughter of Odilo M. and Mildred M. (Steinbach) Conlon. She graduated from St. Clara Academy and attended Clarke College.

Mary Carol was a bank associate with American Trust and Savings Bank in Dubuque. She moved to Minneapolis where she continued working in the banking industry. Mary Carol became an air flight attendant for Western Air in Salt Lake City, Utah, and California. She settled in California and managed women's boutique shops for more than 25 years, while raising her son and daughter. She moved back to Dubuque in September.

Surviving are her daughter, Nicole Martel, of Laguna Hills; her brother, Michael (Sharon) Conlon, of Dubuque, and their children, Michael Scott Conlon, Stephanie Conlon (Steve) Russ, Sarah Conlon (Timothy) Osterberger and Suzy Conlon-Kalb (Greg); her sister-in-law, Helen "Marti" Conlon, of Falls Church, Va., and her children, Charles (Gina) Conlon, Michael B. (Dale) Conlon, and Kelly Conlon (Skip) Paris; her nephews, Philip Larson, of Dubuque, and his children, Michelle, Tracey, and Peter Larson and David E. Conlon, of Dubuque; a niece, Jenny Conlon (Steve) Manning, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; her dear friends, Sister Peg Ortman O.P., of Sinsinawa, Wis., and Shannon Jacobson, of California, and Keoni; and 14 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jon Martel; her brothers, R. David and Richard Conlon; and her niece, Diane Conlon Larson.

Mary Carol's family wishes to extend a special thank-you to staffs at Dubuque Internal Medicine and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for their endless care and support.
