Hope E. Gaherty

Hope Eloise Gaherty, 98, of 5999 Bender Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Massey Station, Dubuque, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Riverview Community, Cincinnati.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1909, in Augusta, Ky., daughter of John William and Elizabeth Caroline (Hasting) Kelly. She married Edward John "Bud" Gaherty on Oct. 15, 1933, in Augusta, Ky.; he preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1985. After Ed died, Eloise moved to Cincinnati to be near her family.

Eloise was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In her younger days, she enjoyed gardening , playing cards, going shopping and eating out.

Surviving are her son, E. Joseph (Ruth) Gaherty, of Cincinnati; a grandson, Shawn Gaherty, of Norwood, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Gaherty; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Steven Gaherty; and three brothers, Wade Kelly, Sam Kelly and Joseph Kelly.
