Thomas P. McDonald, 81, of 570 Fremont, was called home to the Lord Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. McDonald was vice president of the former Dubuque Packing Co. and FDL Foods, retiring in 1991.

He was born on June 24, 1926, in Dubuque, son of Peter and Mary (Powers) McDonald. He married Helen Lazik on Jan. 16, 1947, in Germany.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Family was the center of his life. He will be deeply missed by all. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Helen McDonald, of Dubuque; two daughters, Jean McDonald, of Whitefish Bay, Wis., and Christina (Vince) Kutsch, of Dubuque; three sons, Michael (Ellen) McDonald, of Hayword, Wis., Patrick (Martha) McDonald, of Evanston, Ill., and Kevin (Sara) McDonald, of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Kristi, Jill, Maureen, Colleen, Katie, John, Mike, Molly, Martha and Lacey; four great-grandchildren, Sam, Jacob, Josie and Jackson; a brother, Jay McDonald, of Mankato, Minn.; and a sister, Lois Sodawasser, of Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; a grandson, Michael McDonald; and a sister, Mary Jane McAuliffe.
