Edward G. "Brownie" Brown, 66, of 984 Rush St., died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at home following a battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1941, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Rose (Powers) Brown. He married Bette Ann Klauer on Feb. 11, 1977, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque.

He owned and operated Brownie's Auto Salvage in Dubuque. He worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 20 years prior to owning the salvage yard.

He was a member of St. Columbkille's Church.

He was an avid race fan and enjoyed visiting with his many friends at the salvage yard. Brownie won the first "Trophy Dash" at the Dubuque County Speedway in his number 44 race car and was inducted into the Dubuque Speedway Hall of Fame. Everybody knew and loved Brownie. Whether he was flying around a race track, talking with his buddies at the junkyard, or being with his "bride" Bette, he lived life to the fullest. He always said, "If I died tomorrow, nobody had more fun than me."

Surviving are his loving wife, Bette Ann; a daughter, Tracy (Brian) Elenz; a granddaughter, Alea; a grandson, Nolan; a brother, John Brown; a sister, Joyce (Dwight) Henson; a brother-in-law, Gary Pfab; an uncle, William Powers; three nieces and nephews, Terry (Kitty) Brown, and Heather and Shana Henson, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marian Pfab; and his good friend, Russ Steve.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Christian Schultheis, Dr. Honorio Caceres and their staff, especially Jackie, and Hospice of Dubuque for all the wonderful care they gave to Eddie during his illness.
