Vyondalene D. Jelinek

SHERRILL, Iowa -- Vyondalene Denise (Gassman) Jelinek, 73, of Sherrill, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her home with her family by her side.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 N. First St., Guttenberg. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1934, in Dubuque, daughter of Fred and Dolly (Carrier) Gassman. She married Gregory Paul Jelinek Sr. on Feb. 12, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. To this union they raised three sons. Vyondalene was a homemaker and had a passion for crafts. She spent her free time making many Christmas decorations. She also enjoyed crocheting and painting.

Surviving are her husband, Gregory Paul Jelinek Sr.; three sons, Duane (Linda) Jelinek, Paul (Lynda) Jelinek and Tony (Chris) Jelinek, all of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Joe, Andy, Lori, Tim, Tyler, Julia and Laura; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Halle; five sisters, Delores Gordon, of Mesa, Ariz., Anna Mae Hamann, of Maynard, Rosemary Radtke, of Dubuque, and Ivy Stoeffler, Sue (Keith) Saeugling and Shirley Plagman, all of Guttenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie Jean, in infancy; and three brothers, Peter, Paul and Fred Gassman.
