Bernice "Bea" Bauer, 80, formerly of 2127 Garfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at the home of her daughter at 145 E. 17th St.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was born on June 20, 1927, daughter of Art and Jennie V. (Bowers) Brady. She graduated from Colesburg (Iowa) High School and the former Bayless Business College in Dubuque.

Bernice managed Fawn Creek Supper Club in Anamosa, Iowa. She owned and operated BZ' Dart Inn in Dubuque and most recently was employed at Wal-Mart.

She was a loving mother of nine children. She enjoyed playing cards, especially with her friends at BZ'. She was known as a great cook. We will always remember her holding a cup of coffee and her love of "high heels." She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her four sons, James Bauer, of Carrollton, Texas, Robert (Roxanne) Bauer and John (Jenni) Bauer, both of Dubuque, and Todd (Jenny) Bauer, of Windsor, Colo.; four daughters, Diane Lochner, Kathy (Gary) Schlosser and Debbie Runde, all of Dubuque, and JoAnn (Tony) Newt, of Windsor, Colo.; two sisters, Violet (Roy) Schlee, of Decorah, Iowa, and Alberta (Dick) Farquhar, of Robins, Iowa; a brother, Steve (Donna) Brady, of Edgewood, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eugene Bauer Jr.; longtime companion, Chuck Richardson; a sister, Mildred Farmer; and a son-in-law, Thomas Lochner.

The family of Bernice Bauer would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic, of Iowa City, and Hospice of Dubuque for their guidance and care. Our family would especially like to thank our sister JoAnn and her husband, Tony, for always going the extra mile for the family.
