CASCADE, Iowa -- Robert F. "Bob" McDevitt, 83, of River Bend Assisted Living, Cascade, formerly of Bernard, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Villa Nova Cemetery, Charlotte (Iowa), where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 528 of Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.

He was born on July 31, 1924, in De Witt, son of William F. and Edna E. (Ranson) McDevitt. He graduated from Delmar High School and enlisted in the Navy, serving during World War II from July 12, 1944, until July 23, 1946.

In addition to farming most of his life, he also worked at Loras College.

He was a member of Saint Patrick's Garryowen Parish and the rosary society, the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade and the Knights of Columbus Council in Cascade.

Bob was an avid collector and loved auctions, flea markets and his dogs.

Surviving are two sisters, Betty (Glynn) Noonan, of Bernard, and Marguerite McCoy, of De Witt; a brother, Tom (Barb) McDevitt, of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Connie McDevitt, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Jack; a brother-in-law, James McCoy, a sister-in-law Elinor "Pete" McDevitt; and a niece, Elinor Freeman.

Bob's family would like to thank the staff of River Bend for all their loving care and the residents for all their friendship, also to the nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center for all the care you gave to Bob.
