BERNARD, Iowa -- Louis E. Curoe, 71, of 20247 Higginsport Road, Bernard, died at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating and Deacon Marvin Recker concelebrating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fillmore. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary recited at 7 p.m.

He was on born Nov. 10, 1936, in Dubuque, son of Eldon and Genevieve (Donovan) Curoe. He received his education in the former Sacred Heart School in Fillmore and St. Martin's School in Cascade.

He married Shirley Federspiel on April 23, 1957, at St. Aloysius in South Garryowen.

Louie farmed all his life in the rural Bernard area.

He loved spending time with his family, golfing, planting crops, playing cards and drinking coffee in Bernard.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Fillmore, and a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930. Louie also was a 4-H Leader for the Fillmore Progressors, as well as their basketball coach.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Curoe, of Bernard; six children, Curt (Ann) Curoe, of Bernard, Cindy (Larry) Trumm and Cathy (Mark) Knuth, both of Cascade, Cheri (Tom) Ryan, of Bernard, Christy (David) Crees, of Dysart, and Chuck (Lizz) Curoe, of Bernard; 24 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Pat (Nege) Curoe, of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Kathleen Curoe, of Des Moines, and Mary Jo (Jim) Noel, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
