Vivian L. Bauer, 84, of Moline, Ill., formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis, Ill.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hoffman-Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque. The family invites everyone to a funeral luncheon at 1 p.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, and following the burial Tuesday at Moracco's Restaurant in Dubuque.

The former Vivian LaVonne Hirsch was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Arthur J. and Flossie (Hansel) Hirsch. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1941.

She married Arnold J. Bauer on April 2, 1943, in Dubuque.

Vivian was employed by Farley & Loetscher in Dubuque, in the payroll department prior to moving to Moline, where she was employed by Deere and Company for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was secretary for chief technical consultant Hyman Bornstein in the Materials Engineering Department and also for William A. Hewitt, Executive Vice President of Deere & Company. Vivian also was a complex secretary at Black Hawk College for four years.

She was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, and United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Margaret Bottome Circle of King's Daughters and the Chi Chapter of Gamma Nu Sorority of North America Benefit Association. She was in the Oak Glen Auxiliary, and she volunteered as a secretary for the American Red Cross for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Arnold; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Tom Fuller, of Moline; two grandchildren and their spouses, Stacey and Jeff Gerstel and Jessica and Jason Stahl; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha Gerstel and Andrew Stahl.
