Brian Larkin Gleason, 25, of Hills, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from head injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church, 1001 Alta Vista, St., where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on March 7, 1982, in Des Moines, son of Richard and Linda (Larkin) Gleason.

Brian was a graduate of Nativity Grade School and Wahlert High School, where he earned a four-year varsity letter in soccer. He then graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science in civil and environmental engineering.

Brian was employed by the City of Washington as the assistant city engineer. He found his work rewarding, and the people he worked with supportive.

Brian was the co-captain of the University of Iowa's Ultimate Frisbee Club team where he enjoyed many hours of friendship and competition. His teammates enriched his life.

He enjoyed hiking and backpacking trips with his close friends that shared his enthusiasm for adventures and fun. They made unforgettable memories.

Surviving are his parents, Richard and Linda; his two sisters, Megan and Shannon; his paternal grandfather, George Gleason, of Cascade, Iowa; his maternal grandparents, Joe and Patricia Larkin, of Bernard, Iowa; his dog, Josie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Irene Gleason, and his paternal uncles, David Gleason and Robert Hedrick.

Brian's giving ways will continue on as he contributed many of his organs to the Iowa Organ Donor registry. All the running and lifting weights have paid off for him and all the people whose lives he may save.

Son of Dubuque County Judge Killed in Car Accident

RIVERSIDE, Iowa - The son of Dubuque County District Associate Judge Richard R. Gleason died in a two-vehicle accident on a snow-covered highway in Washington County Thursday.
Brian L. Gleason, 25, of Hillsboro, died at about 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Troopers said Gleason was driving north on U.S. 218, just north of Riverside, when he lost control of his vehicle around 5 p.m. and crossed a median - entering the southbound lane of traffic. His vehicle broad sided a sport-utility vehicle driven south by Linda J. Carter, 62, of Hillsboro.

Carter and Gene W. Carter, 64, also of Hillsboro, were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where they were treated and released, according to hospital officials.

District Court Judge Lawrence H. Fautsch said he, "knew Brian well enough to know he was a beautiful person."

Believing he spoke for many others who worked with Judge Gleason, Fautsch said, "We're all in a state of shock and at a loss of words right now."

The accident remains under investigation.

Those who work closely with Judge Gleason expressed sadness and support Friday. "We're all in a state of shock and at a loss of words right now," said Dubuque County District Court Judge Lawrence Fautsch, adding that he "knew Brian well enough to know he was a beautiful person."

The Dubuque County Clerk's office on Friday was taking up a collection to purchase a memorial stone with a special engraving, expressing their support for the Gleason family.
