ASBURY, Iowa -- Richard H. "Dick" Nesteby, 74, of 2260 Yorktown Road, Asbury, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, with Pastor Chris St. Clair of Wesley United Methodist Church, East Dubuque, Ill., officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He owned and operated Dick's Shell Service until 1963 when he went to work for John Deere Dubuque Works. He was an experimental mechanic at Deere for 34 years, retiring in 1998.

He was born on June 4, 1933, in Castalia, Iowa son of Carl and Florence (Jahnke) Nesteby. He married Byrl Janzen on July 26, 1952, at Wesley United Methodist Church, East Dubuque.

He drove stock cars from 1953 to 1970 and was a well known dirt track racer. In 1997, Dick was inducted into the Dubuque County Speedway Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his wife, Byrl, of Asbury; his children, Scott (Pam) Nesteby, of Dubuque, Michael (Bonnie) Nesteby, of Las Vegas, Nev., James (Marlene) Nesteby, of East Dubuque, and Sherry (James) Welter, of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Chris (Danielle) Nesteby, Lynnann, Steven and Kristina Nesteby and Joseph and Andrew Welter; three great-grandchildren, Pierce, Xander and Emmy Nesteby; and two brothers, Charles (Freda) Nesteby and Donald Nesteby, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Keith.
