Irene M. Jones, 89, of Dubuque, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Church Cemetery, New Melleray, rural Peosta, Iowa. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque.

She was born on June 27, 1918, daughter of Frank and Frances (Brown) Skahill. She married Willard "Bill" Jones; he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1996.

She attended Clarke College and taught at several area country schools until her marriage.

Irene was a longtime member of St. Raphael's Cathedral.

She was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. She also enjoyed reading. Irene was always interested in current events.

As a homemaker for most of her life, she enjoyed taking care of her home. Irene was a devoted wife and doted on her husband, Bill.

Surviving are a sister, Leone Cook, of Mequon, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Skahill and Howard Skahill; and her parents.

The family would like to extend a thank-you to the staff at Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their exceptional care of Irene.
