Paul E. Schaefer

Paul Edward Schaefer, 92, of 2390 Chaney Road, was called home to his eternal rest on Sunday Dec. 23, 2007, at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on July 12, 1915, in Potosi Wis., son of John and Barbara (Pluemer) Schaefer.

He married Kathryn Elskamp on Sept. 26, 1939. He later married Lois Headington on Dec. 4, 1972.

Paul retired from Hilldale Dairy in 1973, he then worked for Imperial Lanes from the first day they opened until the day that they closed. Paul enjoyed league bowling and especially the Schaefer Family Bowling Tournament. He also enjoyed playing euchre and spending time at the Diamond Jo visiting with employees and people from out of town.

Surviving are his wife, Lois; seven children and stepchildren, Paul (Ginny) Harris, of Minocqua, Wis., T.J. Harris, of Saint Louis, Mo., Kathryn (Donald) Barton, of Crystal Lake, Ill., Leo Headington, of Dubuque, Lyle (Dianne) Headington, of Indianapolis Ind., Marc (Debra) Headington, of Des Moines, and Donald (Laurie) Headington, of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Anita Schaefer, Dot Schaefer, Gen Schaefer, Callista Schaefer and Jean Schaefer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; Bea Ray, Nellie Books, Sister Mary Aelred, Sister Aimee Schaefer; and seven brothers, Victor, twins, Arvin and Orville, Joseph, Cyril, Frances and Aelred.

"We sincerely wish to thank the staff at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab for the care they gave to Paul during his stay there."
