Sylvia M. Schroeder, 96, of 2844 Elm St., went to eternal life with the Lord to rest in peace at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 6 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1911, in Balltown, Iowa, daughter of Frank A. and Mary (Loch) Link. She married Ervin Schroeder on Nov. 23, 1937, at St. Francis Church, Balltown; he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1981.

Sylvia and Ervin farmed in the Waupeton area for many years. She was an active member of Holy Ghost Parish, the Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens of Holy Ghost. For many years Sylvia cleaned the church.

She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and in her earlier years she enjoyed gardening and canning.

Sylvia's greatest joy was being with her family, her sons and nieces and nephews.

Surviving are two sons, Allen J. (Dorothy Holloway) Schroeder, of Monroe, Wis., and Ronald F. Schroeder, of Dubuque; a sister, Dolores Brimeyer, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Hilda Breitbach, of Brookfield, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Adela Metcalf; and two brothers, Gerald Link and Victor J. Link.

Memorials may be given to Holy Ghost Parish and Divine Word Seminary in Epworth, Iowa.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Mercy Medical Center for their care and concern for Sylvia.
