Washington Simpson, an old and highly respected citizen, died at his home in this city Saturday evening, April 19, 1902. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., May 23, 1829, and came to Iowa in 1851 locating in Otter Creek township, Jackson county. In 1857 he returned to Wiltonsburg, Penn., where he married Miss Diana E. Allshouse, returning to Iowa immediately after his marriage. To this union was born two children, Joseph A. and Ida M., who, with the wife and mother, remain to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. He removed with his family to this city about twenty years ago and remained a resident until his transition on the evening above stated. He has been troubled with a weakness of the back for a number of years but was not in a dangerous condition until the last week. The funeral services was held at the house yesterday evening with interment at Zwingle today.
