Charles Nauman, 80, of 2549 Wilbricht Lane, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at home.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where friends may call after 3 p.m. today. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
He was born on March 22, 1927, in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Peter and Edwina (Hirsch) Nauman. He married Dolores E. Linden on Jan. 10, 1948, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Ocean Side, Calif.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949.
He later worked for the Dubuque Packing Co. for 34 years retiring in 1983, and operated the Old 20 Inn Tavern on Crescent Ridge during the early 70s.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 6, the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A, St. Anthony's Parish and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and working in his garden, and bowling.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores; his children, Judy Nauman, of Dubuque, Peter Nauman, of Steamboat Springs, Calif., Dean (Holly) Nauman, of Dubuque, Lorin (Virginia) Nauman, of State College, Pa., and Kenneth (Darlene) Nauman, of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren. Jolyn, Jared, Chambers, Ian and Kenneth II; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ray, Vic, Richard, Clarence and Cletus; and three sisters, Stella, Florence and Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, St. Anthony's and American Cancer Society.
Thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Sherry, for all the care they gave to Charles.
