Lee J. Oliver

Lee J. Oliver, 61, of 1213 Rhomberg Ave., died Friday, May 18, 2007, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Oliver was a truck driver for Weber Paper Co. for more than 30 years.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1945, in Dubuque, son of Leo and Sophia (Hamsmith) Oliver. He married Glenice "GiGi" Hochberger on May 20, 1994.

Lee graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1963. He served in the Navy as an electricians mate on the USS Little Rock. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a deacon. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as a scoutmaster. Lee was an excellent cook who enjoyed boating, bowling, woodworking and fishing with his two children.

Surviving are his wife, Glenice "GiGi" Oliver, of Dubuque; two children, David Oliver and Michelle Oliver, both of Dubuque; five siblings, Gary (Mary Lou) Oliver, Paul (Mike Mentzer) Oliver, Carole Stahl, Judi Broessel and Dennis (Susie) Oliver, all of Dubuque; his in-laws, D.D. (Russ) Bowman, of Dubuque, and Ned (Donna) Hochberger, of Oronoco, Minn.; a special uncle, Glenn Hochberger, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jeanne Meyer; a brother, Wayne Oliver; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don and Gloria Hochberger.

A Lee Oliver Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Drs. Hermann and Baer and their staffs as well as Lee's special nurses at the Finley Intensive Care Unit. The family also would like to thank Jim Weber and all of Lee's co-workers at Weber Paper Co. for all of their love and support.
