Asbury, Iowa -- Services for Amanda M. Birch, 17, 15462 Lewis Road, rural Asbury, daughter of Harold T. and Nancy J. (Davis) Birch, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road.

Burial will be in the Asbury Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Miss Birch worked at Chi Chi's Restaurant and previously at Nicholas Perrot's Restaurant in the Best Western Dubuque Inn.

She was born on May 25, 1976, in Dubuque, daughter of Harold T. and Nancy J. (Davis) Birch. She died at 1:48 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 1993, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident just east of Sundown Road.

She lived in Dubuque all her life and attended Irving School, Washington Junior High School and was a junior in the class of 1995 at Hempstead High School, Dubuque. She was a member of the color guard for the Hempstead High School marching band and was a member of the photography class at school.

Surviving besides her parents are a brother, William "Bill" Birch, at home; a sister, Barby A. Birch, at home, a half brother, Andrew Birch, of Dubuque, a half sister, Kayla Birch, of Dubuque, her maternal grandparents, William and Minnie Davis, of Asbury, her paternal grandparents, Norma and Dan Waechter, and Alfred T. Birch, all of Dubuque, and her maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Delila Hines, of Dubuque.

An Amanda M. Birch Memorial Fund has been established.

TEEN KILLED IN FIERY CRASH -- Dubuque Telegraph Herald

A Dubuque County teenager was killed in a fiery one-car accident early Sunday near Asbury, said the Dubuque County Sheriff's Department.

Amanda M. Birch, 17, of 15462 Lewis Road, died in the accident, which occurred at 12:02 a.m. on Asbury Road just east of Sundown Road, said deputies.

Rebecca Davis, 21, of 14801 Lewis Road, was driving the car east on Asbury Road as it went out of control and into a south ditch, striking a large concrete culvert, said deputies. The driver and three passengers were thrown from the car as it flipped over and caught fire.

Davis and her passengers were injured and taken to hospitals. Davis and Eric Johnson, 16, of 1635 Catherine St., are in satisfactory condition today at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit. Johnson was trapped under the rear of the vehicle and was freed by bystanders.

Mary Davis, 21, of 18977 Asbury Road, was taken to The Finley Hospital, where she is in fair condition today. Birch died at Finley.

The cause of the accident if under investigation.
