Dorothy E. Okey

Dorothy E. Okey, 94, of Dubuque, formerly of Cassville, Wis., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in the Cassville Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

She was born on June 14, 1912, in Beetown Township, daughter of James and Minnie (Rech) Perrin. She married Hubert Okey in 1935, in Galena, Ill., and became a homemaker in Cassville. They purchased a farm and she began teaching. Dorothy was later employed at the general store and worked at Stonefield Village for 21 years.

Dorothy graduated from Cassville High School and then earned her teaching degree from Platteville Normal School.

She moved to Dubuque in 1998.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Cassville Methodist Church.

She loved quilting, card playing, bingo and sewing. She also loved to play Scrabble and it kept her mind sharp.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Pat) Chew, of Dubuque; two grandchildren, Zyann (Andy) Kinney and Eric Chew; three great-grandchildren, Kara and Rachel Kinney, and Crystal Chew; a great-great-grandchild, Zayda Zalaznik; and a sister, Ruth (Woodie) Grisham, of Salado, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert, in 1970; her brothers, Charlie, Frank, Virgil, Leland and Donald Perrin; and two sisters, Opal Lewis and Lucille Ackerman.
