Clara A. Heri

Clara A. Heri, 100, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of 2144 Washington St., died peacefully at 4:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at the center, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1906, in Durango, Iowa, daughter of Anthony and Catherine (Backes) Wagner. She married Clarence P. Heri on Oct. 1, 1930, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville, Iowa; he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1973. Clara was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She and her husband, Clarence, farmed for many years in the Five Points area near Rickardsville.

Clara was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Rickardsville and was now a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary Society in Dubuque.

She was an excellent cook and was happy to share her food and recipes. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and will be remembered as the "egg lady" who delivered eggs to many families in Dubuque.

Clara's greatest joy was being involved with her family and her grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Eileen C. (Herbert) Duehr, of Dubuque, Mary M. (William) Haas, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Dorothy A. (Richard) Heber, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Kathy (John) Kapparos, James (Susan) Duehr and Karen (David) Roth, Brian, Sara, Connie and Tobin Haas, Suzanne Heber, Daniel (Tresa) Heber, Joan (Scott) Schurbon, and Linda (Jay) Merfeld; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild is expected in March.

She was preceded in death by two great-granddaughters, Kaitlin Roth and Nicole Black; and a brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Madaline Wagner.

Memorials may be sent to Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001, and to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.behrfuneralhome.com.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Liaboe, the Fuerste Eye Clinic, Hospice of Dubuque, and the nurses and staff of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab for their loving care of Clara. Thank-you, also, to all Clara's faithful visitors.
