Robert "Hozie" Hoffman
Robert "Hozie" Hoffman, 81, of 1641 Ruan Drive, died Monday evening, Nov. 27, 2006, at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a parish and Knights of Columbus Council 510 prayer service at 3 p.m.
Mr. Hoffman worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 34 years until retirement.
He was born on April 25, 1925, in Dubuque, son of William and Theresa (Robinson) Hoffman. He married La Vonne Nauman on Nov. 27, 1947, at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Sherrill, Iowa.
He was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II.
He was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus Council 510 and the Lacoma Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, La Vonne Hoffman; three daughters, Kathryn (John) Jeidy, of New Bern, N.C., Nancy Tauke, of Waukesha, Wis., and Laura (Brian) Barry, of Dubuque; seven sons, Robert V. (Faye) Hoffman, John (Susan) Hoffman, Ed Hoffman, William (Julie) Hoffman and Andy (friend, Amanda) Hoffman, all of Dubuque, Nick Hoffman, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mark (Jill) Hoffman, of Racine, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, William Hoffman, Burton (Rosie) Hoffman and Da Lee (Charles) Preston, all of Dubuque, and Scharleen (Harold) Wiebold, of Phoenix; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Benn.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Tauke; and two sisters, Donna Benn and Jeanette Williams.
